Reviews of Dark Corners

"The story is so beautifully written and so deep on so many levels that I found myself transfixed 'til early morning hours, unaware of how cold the room had become until the sky began to lighten! Haunting, mysterious, very spiritual, based in historical fact, meanings within meanings - everything I wish I could find more often. Gayle, thank you, and please keep writing stories like these!"

Reviews of For Love's Sake Only

"Adventurous story - The Second Kiss/Nakoa's Woman haunts. One generation has given it to the next. In FOR LOVE'S SAKE ONLY the lovers of that story meet again and they meet just as vividly, just as tenderly and the two books merge in the truth that the soul knows no barriers- not even time. Each book of the trilogy can stand alone, but it is one seamless story. In the end against the background of all of the glory and the perils of Elizabethan England the theme seems to be that lovers were once one and will seek each other again and again - that we really return to earth for love's sake only. I did not just read. I experienced. I wept. I exulted. Once more we meet people in a book that reach the heart."

Reviews of Gladyce with a 'C'

“This is the second book that I have read by this author. The first book was titled "The Second Kiss" and was truly wonderful. I have been patiently waiting for more books by Gayle Rogers. Finally Gladyce with a C is here. I have given it a definite 5 star rating on the entire content. I was especially impressed with the historical facts and dates. It seemed as though I was there participating in the action. The romance kept me so engrossed that I stayed up to 2:00 AM to finish it. The ending was perfect. Let's hear a lot more from Gayle Rogers. “

 “Wonderful Historical Novel”

Amanda J White in Marysville, WA United States on February 29, 2004

 “Wow! I'm reliving forgotten memories.

This book has reopened my mind to my buried past. She has recreated times & events that brought them all back to me.My heart is just racing & I have goose bumps because of all the old memories that have taken place in her story. Even the near death experience was so similiar to mine that I am not afraid to die because it was a beautiful light tunnel & what a JOY & Glorious feeling to travel thru. Each page was an experience & the time lines & historical events brought so many thoughts of earlier years Now that I am a real senior citizen ,it made me recall all the experiences we had growing up in those turbulant years. I read it so fast now I will read it slower, each word, each sentence, each chapter, & really enjoy & relive each of my past memories again . I loved her for bringing back Nakoa as Nathaniel & Maria as Mylayna from her first book ,The Second Kiss, Because when I was 19 I met a wonderful person , & we each went our separate ways then ... when my Dad died & I went East for the Funeral ,I found him, my Soul Mate after 35 years & we have been married for 23 years happily . To love and be loved is important to you and to me. So read this book if you are a sensitive caring person and family orientated.”

 “Beautiful Love Story

I've read Gladyce With a C and I have to say that it is incredible. The author's writing creates a world that is both vivid and poetic. It is a metaphysical and mystical love story that follows the lives of two young lovers who were destined to be together long before they ever met. Years ago I read this author's best selling book Nakoa's Woman. Gladyce With a C is the continuation of Nakoa & Maria's love story in a new incarnation. Gayle Rogers is an awesome writer. When I read her stories I become a part of them.”

Cecilia (eyer@anacortes.net) on November 19, 2001

“Glady's with a C fed my whole being. Gayle's depiction of pertinent history challanged my mind, her romatic style warmed my heart and her explicit presentation, demonstrating the meaning of life, exhilarated my soul. Once I got into this book I had to read it quickly to experience her story telling the way she contrived it. Now I must read it slowly and throughly to embrace and internalize the impact this story has had on me. If you loved Nakoa's Woman, Gladyce with a C will cause you to explore the core of your reality. I have never read a book, that has enlightened me, like Gladyce with a C.”

Reader review

“…appears the author was bearing her own soul throughout the book and it seems many of her own experiences are put to paper. I would really like to read more books by Gayle Rogers. Both books have been well-written and the reader becomes so involved in the storylines, they become part of the story for a few short hours. One of the few books that has held my attention in the last five years.”

“I loved this book. It is an engaging story about a young womans life, love & hardships, with an informative history lesson thrown in. I was captivated by Mylayna's story. Gayle Rogers weaves an amazing tale of her own life story with an eloquent & descriptive style. I couldn't put this book down. Can't wait to read more by this author.”

Reviews of My Name Was Mary

“My favorite historical novel. A must read book for those who love history and Abraham Lincoln. Gayle Rogers has a way of novelizing history in this book that follows Mary Todd Lincoln from her birth to her death. Rogers becomes Mary and gives light to the 16th President's wife. You learn of her dreams, her joy's, her trial's, her love for her children and her beloved husband that even death cannot conquer.”

"A great novel by Gayle Rogers,

A great novel by Gayle Rogers that moves you from the first page. Historical Native American page turner that deals with life in a mid 19th century Blackfoot Indian Village. Maria, a beautifull white woman, is captured by Nakoa, the cheifs son, who falls in love with her from the first time he lays eyes on her. Thier tumultuous relationship will keep you intrigued to the very last page. Once you pick up this book, you can't put it down.”

“I read Nakoa's Woman about 25 years ago, and have never forgotten it, especially the haunting ending. I just reread it under a different title, SECOND KISS. This books speaks of the continuation of the soul, about us being on this Earth to love and grow. The poignant and heart wrenching love between Nakoa and Maria is so well written and lyrical, that joy and tears are elicited. The author deeply understands the struggles and the rapture of finding one's self, surrender and acceptance. The American Indian culture is authentically portrayed, and contrasted against the white man's world. You must treat your mind and heart to reading this book. Gayle Rogers, if you read this please mail me. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book that touched my soul.”

 "A Beautiful Love Story,

I absolutely love Nokoa's Woman! I could not put the book down. Gayle Rogers described the people, culture and scenery so vividly, I felt like I was there. I could smell and taste the food they ate. It is a beautiful, beautiful love story that I savored for days after reading - not a dull moment.”

 “Very Touching Love Story,

I just finished reading this book & I just couldn't put it down. I LOVED this book! It is a testament to love & the heartache that often goes along with it. It is a wonderfully written book about 2 people overcomming vast cultural differences to be together. Gayle Rogers is a very imaginative & descriptive writer. She took me to another place & time.”

 “An excellent read

I read this book many years ago and it made such an impression on me that I have never forgotten it. The story is not predictable and that is one of the greatest charms of this book. The characters are fully developed and interesting. It is not a 'formula' romance novel. I was delighted to find a copy and enjoy the book all over again.”

“This story I can never forget-just beautiful!

I read this book in the late 70s, read it and reread throughout the years. It is the most romantic, spiritual, mystical love story I have ever read. It has everything in it, passionate love, spirituality, the struggle with oneself, sacrifice for love, sorrow, etc. Everytime you read this book, you learn something new about yourself, your soul, eternal love, the beautiful ways and thoughts of the Native Americans. Yes, it also teaches you…”

 “UNFORGETTABLE, BITTERSWEET,AWESOME

I read this book in the late 70s, and read it and reread many, many times. This has been my favorite historical romance novel of all times. No other compare to this magical, bittersweet romance story. The dialogue of the Native Americans are so incredibly profound that it makes your heart melt. I wanted it to go on and on. Gayle, the author, seemed to have such a spirtual insight when she wrote this book. This love story is passionate, gentle, mystical, heartbreaking and leaves you wanting more. After I read it, I kept looking for her novels and couldn't find any. I read it first as ‘Nakoas Woman’, then discovered that it was first named ‘The Second Kiss’. I still have a very old copy, and am going to buy another one to have my daughter read it.”

“A window into a relm of beauty,a book you can never put down.

This book touched my heart. It is so beautifully written. The brilliant use of wording and tone melted my heart over and over again. I wanted it to never, ever end. This book is absolutly amazing. My mother gave the book to me telling me that she read it at my age and loved it, 1 thought it would be borring like every other book I have read but I was so wrong. After reading the 1st chapter I was drawn to it. Gayle Rogers' use of wording is amazing. She draws you into a world of beauty and passion. The relationship's between her book's characters was cleverly put together. The cultures of the long forgotten indian tribes were revealed in a ocean of beautiful wording. 1 wish with all my heart eveiyone could be given a chance to read this beautiful book. I remember when 1 first started reading it. It was at 12:00 at night, I was so bored so I decided to read a little of the book my mom gave me. 1 was up all night reading it, I literally could not put it down. Gayle.... if you ever read this review I want you to know your book touched my soul. I wonder if she wrote any other books, I'm sure that if she did they are just as beautifull writen as

"The second kiss". I want everyone who reads this to know that I love this book with all my heart and I want you all to read it and see how wonderful it is. I will end this now saying this book is the very heart of beauty - if you are still alive gayle, please contact me I have so many questions to ask.”

“I read ‘The Second Kiss’ in 1999. It's a wonderful book. The author has such a gift of taking you right into the story. It is a love story that you want to go on for eternity. I do wish this book would be reprinted so I could own my own copy. I have had the honor of meeting Gayle Rogers, and she is as enchanting as her writings.”

“My name is Jack Bielnski, and I am a legally blind person who so very much appreciated this book being in LARGE PRINT, as most books I "read" are talking books. It was SO nice to hold a book so engaging as this book in my hand and savor the engrossing story which begins with the Nakoa's Woman poem at the very beginning of the book. For some, it may take reading the entire book before you grasp the meaning of the poem-but the story takes you through so many emotional avenues as you relate to the wisdom of Natosin when he speaks-and when he DOESN'T! The ignoring of Anatsa, because of her handicap, by her tribal members, was overcome with Maria's befriending her. This was a spellbinding read which captured my attention throughout the book. It made me feel as though I was present seeing and hearing all the events so graphically described in this story. Someone should seriously consider making this book into a movie. It would be a romantic and historical OSCAR-WINNING film.”

 “Excellent Book

I loved this book. It was excellent. I read it many years ago. I wish they would make it into a movie. I want to read all the books this lady wrote. Do you have them here?”

Reader from Frostburg, Maryland

“I read this book in 1986 and I could not believe that is was written in 1963. The book was so touching that I never read it again. There are few books that touch me as this one did and leave such a lasting impression. The characters are written in larger than life image. They make you love them and hate them just as if they really were people you knew. The ending was not what I wanted, but I wouldn't change a thing.

If you enjoy a love story that is so close to real life, then this is the book for you to read.”

“An Excellent Book. I can't say when I have read a more enjoyable book than Nakoa's Woman. From the very beginning it held my interest, attention, and heart. I could barely put it down.  “Nakoa's Woman - wonderful story

I read this book about 20 years ago or so. I enjoyed this book tremendously. My mother  also loves this book and we are unable to locate it. We think she lent it out to someone and never received it back. I would like to get it for her for Christmas as a surprise. The love story between Nakoa and Maria was absolutely beautiful and haunting. I will reread it with pleasure!”

 “A modern classic!

Like the other reviewers, I first read this book about 25 years ago. The paperback disappeared during a cross-country move, but I never forgot this wonderful tale of Native Americans and the pioneered West. I had just moved to the Pacific Northwest, so rich in this culture, when I first read this book. After its disappearance, 1 was devastated to learn that I could no longer buy it. What a treat to find it now re-released in large print!! Even better now that I have ‘middle-age sight.’ Thank you”

  “I Never Forgot.

this magnificent and spellbinding book that takes you through every emotion conceivable. My mother had bought it about 20 years ago or more and we always shared our books. Nakoa is definatcly one of our biggest all time favorites. I have been looking off and on over the years to find a copy...not even caring about it's condition. I'd been looking in flea markets, garage sales, even in the library and now there is this computer...here I find Nakoa and my search is over. I just wish Ms. Rogers had a follow up of this especially well written novel. I know I would have bought it. This may sound weird but a dream of mine has come true and that was to be able to hold and read Nakoa at least one more time. Thank you.”

“An Amazing Haunting Indian Love story,

I read the original The Second Kiss by Gayle Rogers in Thousand Oaks, 26 years ago And my Book was never returned after loaning it out to many folks to enjoy (I wish someone would return my signed book) then in Ohio I found Nakoas Woman in paperback & reread the beautiful so true love story, with such accurate detail and historical notes It again was so refreshing to read & so haunting , then we moved & my box of books was stolen but now I found Glaydce with a C by Gayle & it picks up the two soul mates in Nathaniel as Nakoa & Mylayna as Maria I felt their presence & that as their spirits got reunited again, I was so overwhelmed with emotional feelings I was left with goose bumps & the goose bumps are still with me,just thinking about their picking up where they left off in the another world, What a GLORIOUS Feeling it truly is!! Makes one really wonder about life and death. She has so much knowledge, it is like a real learning experience & she is giving you the inside of the spirit world such as it is. Makes you really wonder whats next??? Keep writing & I also would just love to see the book in a Movie as she wrote it & described the areas , times & places . Thats my dream.”

I must have been 15 when I read this book. It was my best friends and my favorite romance novel. I wanted to find a copy and send it to her to renew our friendship which has gone by the wayside over the past 20 years. Can anyone help me find a copy? It was a beautiful novel and to this day I relate to their haunting love for each other”

I read this book about 20 years ago and it has remained my favorite book of all time. I lent my copy to a boyfriend's sister, we then broke up and she threw it away because she was angry with me. I was devastated! I have looked for this book in every book store I've gone into...I'm  delighted to find this book!”

“I can honestly tell you I have never read a story that pulled me so completely into it, and made me actually feel the rollercoaster of emotions coming from all the characters, as this story has. I could not put this book down and finished it in less then two days. It took that long only because I had to sleep and attend school those two days also.

I was wondering if and when you might be visiting Michigan, for book signing. I would love to meet you and have you sign a book or two (or six or seven) for me. ;o). I bought a copy of The second Kiss hardcover with a dust jacket that was "supposedly" signed by you. The inscription reads:

To my dear friend, as a sister Marcia - we have shared the sorrow and the joys of many rich years.

“A Definite Must-Read - One you won't be able to put down or forget!

By far, the best book I've ever read. Guaranteed to be the one book you'll always remember. The characters, story, and life's (sometimes heart-rendering) lessons - will touch you for a lifetime. Ms. Rogers' excellent writing allows the reader to experience the story in vivid detail. Watch it unfold before your eyes ... through her writing... Read it... Experience it...”

 “Dear Ms. Rogers,

I have read Nakoa's Woman seven times, because I can't get enough of this wonderful love story! The characters are true to themselves and believable to the reader. There are no sissies here. The book has all of the ingredients mixed to create a classic tale: Indian history and customs, spiritual awakenings, a suspenseful plot, and forbidden love.

I have purchased My Name Was Mary, Dark Corners, and Gladyce with a C. I look forward to be in reading oblivion soon. Thank you Gayle Rogers for your wonderful gift of storytelling!

Much Love,

Jeanetta Scott”

 “Dear Ms. Rogers,

More than 20 years ago I read Nakoa's Woman. I named my first born son Justin Nakoa. I had never been so moved and emotionally absorbed by any book, then and now. I think that book was the BEST I have ever read. I say that honestly and I have over 1,000 historical, romance books to back it up. I have that old, wrinkled paper back book on my shelf today. I want to thank you for sharing your wonderful writing talent and imagination with me as well as the thousands who were lucky enough to read this book…

Sincerely,

Deniece Reid"

 “Dear Gayle,

Thank you for getting back to me. I'm so thrilled! ;0) I'm somewhat psychic also! I see things and dream things that come true. This Is so great!
I think you need to send your screenplay around to a few new studios. I know that someone out there will see the beauty of this story ( Nakoa's Woman/The Second Kiss). Not to mention the enormous revenue that surrounds this one of a kind story. If the right actors and actresses are found to play the parts. “

“Is Nakoa's Woman ever going to be made into a movie?

When I saw Dances with the Wolves - there was one actor in it by the name of Rodney Grant... (He portrayed a character named Wind In His Hair) and when I saw his performance on screen, I turned to my mother and said, "Now there is Nakoa." Ironically, I recently visited his website and on the page he says that his plans for the future include producing and directing movies. I left a nice little note on his "guest book" that it says he does read... and referenced your book to him. It would just be awesome to see Nakoa's Woman on screen. Who knows? Maybe Mr. Grant _will be visiting your website to get your email address and ask about making the book into a movie. You never know. I will hope, this:)

It must have been a breath-taking experience to visit where " Nakoa's Woman" actually unfolded in Montana. If I ever get out there again, I will be sure to visit that lake. For it has always been in me that there really was a Nakoa and that the story was true. I'm so thankful that I stumbled across The Second Kiss.. and then all those years later, Nakoa's Woman... and finally, to have stumbled across your email address on Amazon.com. Thank you, Gayle. Your two books so far have had a profound impact on my very life.
